• Homemade Organic Hot Cocoa Mix

I love this recipe because it only has two ingredients.  I didn’t have to go searching for a powdered milk that I was happy with, it is foolproof to mix together, works with whatever milk or non-dairy milk I have on hand, and easy to make when excited little ones are bouncing around at your feet.  I make a double batch and keep it in a nice container in the pantry for cocoa emergencies.  This recipe comes from a great blog called Whole Lifestyle Nutrition.  Be sure to check it out for other great recipes.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup organic cane sugar, rapadura, coconut sugar or granulated honey
    • 1/2 cup organic cocoa powder
    • 6 oz per cup milk of choice

    Instructions:

    1. Combine sugar and cocoa powder in a pint size mason jar.
    2. Place the lid on and shake until well combined.
    3. On the stove top, warm 6 oz of milk to desired temperature. Do not boil the milk.
    4. Once warm, stir in 2 tbsp of hot cocoa mix per 6 ounces of milk and stir until dissolved. So if you are making 2 cups you would add 12 oz of milk and 4 tbsp of the hot cocoa mix.
    5. Pour into mug and add marshmallows or fresh whipped cream.
    6. Store leftover hot cocoa mix in the pantry.
