• Strawberry Milk

    It’s so delicious, the glass is levitating!


    My son LOVES strawberry milk, but he rarely gets it because those little pink boxes make me cringe. He had some recently…hey, it’s organic and has “natural strawberry flavor”…nothing to cringe at, right? Thanks to good old Google, here’s what I learned “natural strawberry flavor” really is comprised of:

    amyl acetate, amyl butyrate, amyl valerate, anethol, Anisyl formate, Benzyl acetate, Benzyl isobutyrate, butyric acid, cinnamyl isobutyrate, cinnamyl valerate, cognac essential oil, diacetyl, dipropyl ketone, ethyl acetate, aethyl amyl ketone, Ethyl butyrate, ethyl cinnamate, ethyl heptanoate, ethyl heptylate, ethyl lactate, ethyl methylphenyglycidate, ethyl nitrate, ethyl propionate, ethyl valerate, heliotropin, hydroxy-phenyl-2-butanone (10 percent solution in alcohol), a-ionone, isobutyl anthranilate, isobutyl butyrate, lemon essential oil, maltol, 4-methylacetophenone, methyl anthranilate, methyl benzoate, methyl cinnamate, methyl heptine carbonate, methyl maphthyl ketone, methyl salicylate, mint essential oil, neroli essential oil, nerolin, neryl isobutyrate, orris butter, phenethyl alcohol, rose, rum ether, g-undecalactone, vanillin and solvent.


    I hate needing a chemistry degree to read a food label. Here’s his new non-cringe worthy treat…the one with the least amount of sugar and labor.  It’s so easy, my old professor would say this idea belongs in the “Department of Duh.”

    Strawberry Milk – from http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/strawberry_milk/

    1-2 cups milk or milk alternative (rice milk, soy milk, almond milk, etc.)
    A handful of strawberries, rinsed, stems removed
    1 to 3 Tbsp honey
    Put milk, strawberries, and 1 Tbsp of honey into a blender. Blend until thoroughly smooth. Taste and add more honey if you wish your strawberry milk to be a little sweeter.
